ABSTRACT
To date there is a paucity of literature on surgery to alter vocal pitch in male transsexuals. The currently available pitch-rasing surgical technique does not yield .a long term result and the resultant pitch is not high enough to simulate the female voice.


Patients and methods
Since publication, the technique became a standard procedure in our service, and the results are consistent. Most patients comment that they particularly satisfy with the loss of their male tone and they don’t have anymore put a strain to get the preoperative imitating pitch


Surgical technique
Under general anesthesia, each patient was placed in Rose position. A 4-6 cm long transverse cervical incision was made at the point half way between the superior thyriod notch and the inferior border of the thyroid cartilage. Superior and inferior skin flaps were then developed, the strap muscles were separated at midline, and the thyroid cartilage was exposed. Without elevation of the perichondrium, parallel vertical cuts were made on the sides of the thyroid alar at a point 4 mm away from midline,


Results
Subjectively all patients were satisfied with their new voices.Hence and only early postoperative results could be obtained (5 and 12 months). Their voices was close to female at the last follow up
